About

Hello and welcome to my page!

My name is Kirstin and I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Nutritionist and work in private practice as the Owner and Consulting Dietitian of CHEW Nutrition and Dietetics in Brisbane, Australia. I completed my Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (First Class Honours) at the Queensland University of Technology and am a member of Dietitians Australia.

I came to dietetics later in life after having some time out to have children and raise my family and was inspired by a desire to help people fit healthy food habits into busy lives. I’m a keen scientist and with a background in pharmacology, I am a passionate advocate of evidence-based practice.

I have assisted clients with a range of nutrition issues including healthy eating, diabetes care, food intolerances, management of gastrointestinal disorders and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. I work with my clients to set realistic health goals, create individualised food plans and provide education and resources to make sustainable change.

No complicated menu plans, fad diets or hard to follow advice here!

My Passion

Despite being integral to our survival, food can be really complicated for some people. Having the ability to access information 24/7 can be convenient, but, unfortunately there is great opportunity for people to spread misinformation about nutrition. Sometimes it can be really hard to work out what is helpful, and what is a hindrance! This is where having access to a dietitian can be invaluable.
I have 2 areas that I am particularly passionate about.
The first is gut health. I am fascinated by the role gut health plays in our overall health and well-being and am particularly interested in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and how food can be used to treat symptoms of IBS. I have completed FODMAP training with Monash University and love to help clients regain control of their lives by mastering the FODMAP diet and find relief from symptoms of IBS.

My second area of interest is healthy eating and helping people to bring healthy habits into busy, everyday lives. My passion here is more then creating the perfect “summer body” or toned abs. I want to help people re-discover a positive relationship with food, to make food fun and enjoyable and to focus on health rather than body image. While most people “know” what they should be doing when it comes to living a healthy life, sometimes habits, lifestyle and prioritising other things can get in the way of making better choices. When I work with clients, I help them find a realistic approach to nutrition that will create healthy habits now and into the future.
